Say Anything has finally started pre production on their sophomore album, In Defense of the Genre, with producer Brad Wood (mewithoutYou, Sunny Day Real Estate, Foo Fighters). The band isn't done with ...Is a Real Boy just yet as "Wow, I Can Get Sexual, Too" will be released as a single very soon.

Hello everyone, Max here.
We are not done with …Is a Real Boy by a long shot. Due to overwhelming response, we are releasing "Wow, I Can Get Sexual, Too" as a single and are going to be shooting a rad video for it very soon. It is already being played on the radio, but we'll let you know when it gets officially added so you can request it. We are also embarking on a US tour in the spring, co-headlining with one of the greatest bands out there, so look forward to that. We will debut at least one new song on this tour and will probably whip out some more old stuff and a cover or two.
Howevever, I just wanted to let you know we are beginning rehearsals and preproduction for our sophomore album, which will be entitled "In Defense of the Genre". Brad Wood will be producing the record. He has recorded and produced many amazing albums from artists such as Sunny Day Real Estate, Liz Phair, The Smashing Pumpkins and the Foo Fighters to name but a few. You younger folk may know Brad's work with bands like Mewithoutyou and the Working Title. We love Brad and can't wait to start recording in New York City.
The record is another "story" album, this time detailing my struggles with mental health offset by finding love for the first time in my life. I am also happy to say my vocal skills have improved vastly due to 3 years on the road. I don't want to give away too much but suffice to say the lyrics are even more dark, heartfelt, personal and humorous and the songs are catchier and more fun to listen to, at least for me.
Until then I have some musical recommendations I think you guys might dig. This stuff has saved my life recently:
Jeremy Enigk- Sunny Day/ Fire Theft genius has a new record called World Waits. It's beautiful, wistful and emotionally compelling.
Sounds Like Violence- an amazing newish band from Sweden on Burning Heart/Deep Elm. They write songs about what the singer has named "black love"…the kind of love that makes you want to kill yourself and your mate. Completely cathartic. It's like Saves the Day meets Refused meets the Hives meets My Bloody Valentine.
And Your Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead- I just got one of their lyrics tattooed on me. That's how down I am with this band. Every record, including the new one, So Divided, is fully classic. How can one band sounds like rites of spring, sunny day, led zeppelin, the beatles, and nirvana at the same time? By BEING TRAIL OF DEAD!
Meg and Dia- If you like catchy, literature-inspired, edgy pop then check out our buddies in Meg and Dia. It is refreshing to see women rocking as hard as men without any form of Karen O style "I want to be the next hipster Madonna" irony….great songwriting from humble, beautiful peeps. They are on tour now.
Yes. So check that shit out. More updates to come as we finalize our plans for the spring, and keep in mind this:
I love each and every one of you for supporting us and this record…we have now sold over 100 thousand copies of …Is a Real Boy THANKS TO YOU! Stay with us and we promise the future of what we put out will top the past, or I will play in each and every one of your living rooms, naked, with a garter on.
